Food Waste Composting - How Vermicomposting Improves A Garden
Food waste composting is an excellent way to increase your returns on your garden each and every year. By starting your own worm composting bin, you can have several pounds of worm compost, worm castings, and worm tea ready to go for your garden by starting early in the year. Here is how little vermicomposting worms can make your garden grow.
I remember the first time that my friend introduced me to worm composting. I thought he was crazy. I cannot imagine that growing worms in your garage was actually a good idea. I knew that he was an avid gardener and that his garden was always full and lush. I had no idea that the secret behind his success came from the poop of worms.
Most people think of composting as a large pile of steaming organic waste that has leaves and branches piled around it. In fact, at night, depending upon the size of your compost pile, it can be seen as an amber glow emanating light like a machine on autopilot.
Worm composting is completely different except in one way. It is not a large pile of anything. It does not glow because of the heat generated from the decomposition of the organic material. It is, however, a machine made up of little red worms that will generate volumes of the richest compost you have ever seen. There are actually three byproducts of vermicomposting. The first is the worm compost area and this is the fluffy material which has no smell that is the result of the worms processing organic material. The second is worm castings. These are little pellets that are generated by the worms, a form of worm poop, that is full of nutrients that will make your gardens thrive. The third is worm tea. This liquid is literally sprayed onto your plants and it's positive results can be seen sometimes in as little as 24 hours. Nature has created many wonderful things. We have the weather. We have natural occurrences such as beautiful desert scenes or sunsets by the ocean. Nature has also created the vermicomposting process which enables any human being to not only spare our Earth from any further landfills, but also produce excellent fertilizer and amazing garden proceeds. If you are an avid organic gardener that is looking for a natural solution to the herbicides, pesticides, and other pest deterrence necessary to raise a garden, you should look into not only using vermicomposting worms, but also producing your own which through food waste composting will save you money not only on your garbage bill put on your annual fertilizer costs.
